[It’s been a long few days since the Kin’corrans went “home”; Mia doesn’t remember most of them. Since the 31st she’s been, for the most part, sound asleep in the battledome clinic, trying to recover from…well, everything. Dealing with the fire didn’t help, leaving her spent and dehydrated and coughing. The time she’s spent awake, though, convinced her that things in the village were getting back to normal.

So her first mission of the day, after waking and sorting herself out, is to find something to do that will alleviate this boredom and, just perhaps, help make her case for just going home to lie about there instead.]

I know it has been very difficult and busy in the village just recently. Given the date, it will only stay busy. If it is at all possible, though, I would ask a small favor: would anyone be willing to bring a few books from the library to the battle dome clinic? I promise to return them at the first opportunity. …Once I’m done with them, that is.

While I am thinking about it…well, I would not mind a little company either. I want to hear that everyone is all right.

Thank you, but I believe I may be buried under books if I let everyone who offered actually go through with it. I would love a visit, though.

[Ami laughs softly, with a note of sympathy.]

I'll come this evening, then; when I finish my work. Shall I bring you anything? [Avoiding an avalanche of books aside, there must be other things, too!]

[Work. Her mind feels as though it should be working. Of course she knows better; that doesn't make it easier.]

I think I'll be all right by then. I don't need anything.

I'm sort of glad. Of course I wouldn't mind if there was something... but it will be nice just to spend time together visiting, too.

Mm. I'll be close by anyway, so it isn't any trouble. Besides, it's been a long time since I've spoken to quite a few of my friends, since I was gone.

Are many of your friends here too?

From home... only Rei-chan is here now with me. However, I've made some friends while I've been living here.

So have I. If nothing else, it is good to have people around who worry about you and might go looking if you get lost.

If we disappear back home, or if we're taken by the Malnosso. [She can remember a time when no one seemed to have been looking for her. Knowing someone would is comforting.]

...Or if you have trouble using the microwave oven.

[Ami, used to technology - and fending for herself at home with an absent father and busy mother growing up - only smiles and says nothing to embarrass Mia further.]

Mm. I studied abroad before I came back to Luceti. I had to learn to make new friends when I went, or it would have been lonely.

Ah...what does "studied abroad" mean? Is that like traveling?

Mm. It's going to school in another country for awhile, to learn the language and customs and experience that type of traveling and living.

I see. It sounds very interesting, but it must take you a long time to get to a country far enough away.

It's about thirteen hours on an airplane. It seems incredibly fast when you think about how far the plane travels in that time, but it can seem very long while you're sitting in your seat.

I am afraid you have lost me again. Airplane?

It's a type of craft that flies through the air. It has enough power to keep its altitude instead of falling back to the ground.

Oh! So it's like the ship, but without an outside source of...energy.

[Flying on a ship is, somehow, not news.]

That's right; the fuel for its energy is carried with it.

It sounds fascinating. The closest thing we have to that is...well, the only one of its kind and it needs an Adept to make it fly.
