6. [written/action]

I have read about the spirits of this world, and there are spirits of a different sort in my own. I would like to hear about the spirits from other worlds, if anyone is willing to share. What are they like? Are there really worlds without them?

[anyone who sees Mia out and about today - only in the morning - will notice a distinct tiredness and heaviness to her step and movements. She's not feeling entirely up to par, which accounts for her going 'home' to rest after a quick few errands in the morning. The written entry comes later, sometime in the early afternoon.]

Different worlds in this place have different [... trying to search for a layperson's term here...] mechanics.

My world works without magic, or anything similar to it. In fact, its mechanics seem to prevent most of that. It was very surprising to see it here.

[... Massive understatement there. Robert quite nearly panicked when he saw Helios perform it for the first time.]

[Meanwhile everybody on Terra is whizzing around in these pneumatic-and-electromagnetic pods.

... Really, to Mia, it's Robert's world that's using the strange magic...]

Never mind what? There is nothing wrong with questioning this idea. I understand that some peoples' worlds have magic as an accepted part of the world. In that case, it is just as natural to question my words as it would be for me to do the opposite.

[Ironically, he's trying not to be presumptuous. That's obviously not working out so well.]

As a scientist, I welcome any and all questioning. I should be able to prove my statements, after all.

Then it must be something beyond the reach of even the most sophisticated equipment Terrans have, and it must not be responsible for any processes that are currently understood.

Logically speaking, that is a relatively small chance.

If evidence were to change, or otherwise reveal something else that could not be explained by any current theories, then another explanation might be required instead.

[The tl;dr version of that is that "until further notice it doesn't look like it".]

The sciences are both my profession and my greatest love. Studying them is something I enjoy immensely, though I usually study the life of planets other than my own.
