I have read about the spirits of this world, and there are spirits of a different sort in my own. I would like to hear about the spirits from other worlds, if anyone is willing to share. What are they like? Are there really worlds without them?

[anyone who sees Mia out and about today - only in the morning - will notice a distinct tiredness and heaviness to her step and movements. She's not feeling entirely up to par, which accounts for her going 'home' to rest after a quick few errands in the morning. The written entry comes later, sometime in the early afternoon.]

I know of a few things that might fit that description where I come from... unfortunately, none of the things I can think of are good.

The closest thing to that which I can think if would be what we call Witches... embodiments of negative human emotions.

[ a nod. ] I'm not entirely sure how it works, but they feed on those feelings to give themselves strength.

...that's quite different from what you think of as spirits, though, isn't it?

Yes, it is. Actually, what we have in Weyard are not really called 'spirits' at all. But they are all elemental in nature.

Elemental? So things like fire and water...? And I'd hope they don't try to kill you, either.

We did occasionally have to fight the Djinn...but it was never too difficult.

Winning against them means they agree to join with us and amplify our abilities.

Defeating a Witch rewards us with a Grief Seed that allows us to continue to use our abilities... that's at least one similarity.

I'd never thought of it like that, but you could see it that way. Regardless, our efforts save lives. In the end, that's what it's all for.

You have to be sure that you really are saving lives, in the end.

I'm fairly certain of that at least. The cost might be high, but the cause is just.
